Graeme Souness insists one Tottenham star is now ‘past his sell-by date’

Graeme Souness has insisted that Hugo Lloris is long past his ‘sell-by date’ after the Tottenham captain made another error on his return to the starting eleven on Sunday.

Lloris has been guilty of several unforced errors this season, which is perhaps why reports indicate that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici are on the lookout for a successor to the Frenchman (Evening Standard).

The 36-year-old spilt a relatively straight-forward long-range shot from Douglas Luiz on 50 minutes yesterday, with Aston Villa capitalising on the mistake to score their first goal of the game.

Souness insisted that it has been obvious from the start of last season that Spurs need to replace their number one while Jamie Redknapp insisted that Conte will be desperate to add more numbers to the squad in January.

Here’s what the pundits said on Sky Sports after Tottenham’s 2-0 loss:

I have been one of Hugo’s biggest defenders for a long time since I believe his shot-stopping is second to none and for the loyal service he has given to the club. However, it has become clear over the last few months that he is not good enough anymore for this level.
