Graeme Souness launches accusation against ref Mike Dean after Pogba horror tackle

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has blasted Mike Dean for failing to show Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba a red card after a tackle that the French midfielder made on Dele Alli in Tottenham’s game against Manchester United.

The incident occurred in the 78th-minute while contesting a ball with Dele Alli, Pogba put in a challenge with his boot raised high and caught Dele Alli on his knee.

Referee Mike Dean gave Tottenham a free kick for the challenge but did not deem the offence to be bookable, instead showing Pogba a yellow for throwing the ball away.

The decision did not sit well with Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness who was convinced that Pogba maliciously intended to catch Alli and he thus accused Mike Dean of knowing nothing about football.

“I think it’s a red card,” Souness told Sky Sports.

“And there’s not one ounce of doubt in my mind. He knew what he was doing. You step over it, you use your strength to keep the player away, but look where the ball is, look where the foot is.

“If that referee doesn’t see that as a red card, he sees it as a foul, he sees it as a yellow card, then he knows nothing about football, the referee.”

“There wasn’t one ounce of doubt in my mind he’s gone over the ball to do him.”

In the end, the goal from Rashford proved enough for Man Utd to take away all three points, but it could have been a different game had Pogba been appropriately punished for his rash challenge.
