Graeme Souness makes a statement Spurs fans will love but Man United fans will hate

Graeme Souness has insisted that as things stand, Tottenham Hotspur are a superior side to Manchester United, insisting that the Premier League table is an accurate reflection of the quality of the two sides.

The race for Champions League qualification looks set to go down to the wire, with Aston Villa currently occurring the final guaranteed spot, sitting three points ahead of Spurs.

However, with the Premier League potentially in line to be awarded an extra Champions League spot, finishing fifth might be enough to get into the competition, which is why Man Utd are still not out of the race.

The Red Devils currently sit six points behind Tottenham and following his side’s 4-3 win over Liverpool in the FA Cup quarterfinals on Sunday, Erik Ten Hag wanted the Lilywhites that the Red Devils will fight until the end to seal qualification (The Standard).

Tottenham are a better side than Man United

However, Souness has now refuted the contention that United would be in a much better position if not for their injuries this season.

The pundit said on talkSPORT’s Simon & Souness podcast: “If they had kept everyone fit all the time, how much better would they be?

“Not the number he [Erik ten Hag] is quoting. I think Man United right now are a country mile behind their city rivals, Liverpool and Arsenal. And I would suggest they are behind Tottenham as well, and Villa, and the table shows that they are where they should be.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The one reason I remain optimistic that we will get into the Champions League despite our poor showing at Craven Cottage is that Man Utd are an even more inconsistent side than we are and I see them dropping a lot of points in the next nine matches.
