Graeme Souness reacts to Tottenham drawing AC Milan in Round of 16

Graeme Souness believes that Tottenham will not have much trouble overcoming AC Milan in the round of 16 stage of the Champions League.

Tottenham, who finished top of Group D owing to their 2-1 win over Marseille last week, discovered on Monday that they will be battling Milan for a place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Antonio Conte’s men will be relatively pleased with the outcome, as they could have been drawn against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain.

Spurs hold pleasant memories of going up against the Rossoneri in the Round of 16 of the Champions League, with a late Peter Crouch goal in the San Siro helping them to overcome the Serie A giants at the same stage of the competition back in 2011.

Souness has now backed Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester City to overcome Milan, Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig respectively, and book their place in the final eight.

The pundit told talkSPORT (07/11/22): “I think Chelsea will be fine, I think [Manchester] City will be fine, I think Tottenham will be fine – AC Milan are a shadow of what they were.”

This is just the sort of draw I wanted as we are facing a historic side but one that we are well capable of beating. With the second leg at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, it would be disappointing if we are not able to overcome Milan.
