Graham Potter admits he is ‘hopeful’ over experienced man’s availability for Spurs clash

Graham Potter has revealed that he is hopeful Adam Lallana could play a part when Brighton take on Tottenham Hotspur later today.

Tottenham will be looking to bounce back to winning ways after a disappointing performance against Liverpool on Thursday with Jose Mourinho’s side looking frail at the back.

The defeat against the Reds left the North Londoners in sixth place in the table but they do have a game-in-hand over all of the sides above them in the table.

Harry Kane will not be available for Tottenham’s trip to the Amex and it remains to be seen if Jose Mourinho could hand Carlos Vinicius a rare start.

Brighton have an injury concern of their own in Lallana, who was an unused substitute in the Seagulls’ 0-0 draw against Fulham in midweek.

Potter admitted after the game that the former Liverpool man was not fit enough to take to the field against Cottagers after suffering from illness.

However, the Brighton boss did not rule out Lallana playing a part against Spurs.

When asked about the midfielder, he told The Argus: “We are hopeful (on Lallana’s fitness). He has had another couple of training sessions.

“He had a nasty illness and it wiped him out a bit. We need to be careful with Adam but he’s a little bit closer.”

I suspect Lallana will start on the bench and that Potter will bring him on for a cameo in case the home side are chasing the game. After Tottenham’s poor performance on Thursday, nothing other than three points at the Amex will be enough if we harbour ambitions of competing in the top end of the league.
