Graham Roberts labels ex-Liverpool striker’s verdict on Harry Kane as ‘insane’

Graham Roberts has labelled Stan Collymore’s suggestion that Harry Kane lacks a certain X-factor that the likes of Ian Wright and Thierry Henry had as ‘insane’.

Kane’s header against West Brom was his 150th strike in the Premier Leauge, which pushed him into elite company along some of the best goalscorers to play in the top flight.

He reached the milestone just days after scoring his 200th goal for Tottenham in the Europa League clash against Ludogorets.

Collymore suggested in his column for The Daily Mirror that despite entering the 150-goal club, Kane does not belong with the likes of Alan Shearer, Thierry Henry, Andrew Cole, Robbie Fowler and Frank Lampard since he has not helped Spurs to a major trophy.

The former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker suggested that he would take Alan Shearer over Kane “every day of the week” even if the Tottenham striker were to beat the Newcastle legend’s 260 goal record.

Collymore wrote: “If Shearer was a Rolls-Royce Phantom, Henry was a Bugatti Veyron and Fowler, Cole and Owen were all Ferrari Testarossas, then Kane is a Range Rover Vogue.

“He’s exceptional and reliable, and has some really nice gadgets and gizmos. But he ain’t got that thing that makes you go, ‘Wow’, and that’s the difference.”

Here’s how Roberts responded on social media to Collymore’s column:

Spurs Web Opinion

Collymore is basically saying just because Kane does not appear as stylish as the likes of Henry and Owen did to the naked eye, he cannot be considered a better player and a better goalscorer than them, which makes no sense.

Kane is a more of an all-round striker than any of the players that Collymore mentioned and he will go down as the greatest ever goalscorer in Premier League history. If what Kane is doing at the moment is not making Collymore go ‘wow’, then you really have to wonder what the 27-year-old has to do.
