Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League encounter at Manchester City on Saturday evening has certainly caused a talking point for many following the late VAR decision.

talkSPORT host and Spurs supporter Danny Kelly claimed live on air that Mauricio Pochettino’s side should have lost the match to the Premier League champions by six clear goals.

Kelly went on to further suggest that Spurs set up for the match against the current Premier League champions scared whilst also expressing his belief that Pep Guardiola has influenced other managers in trying to play out from the back.

Kelly’s comments sparked a reaction from former Spurs defender Graham Roberts who labelled the assessment as an ‘absolute joke’.

Roberts defended Tottenham’s performance by insisting that sometimes a team has to roll up their sleeves and battle.

While City certainly did dominate the proceedings which included thirty shots to Tottenham’s three, the only stat that mattered, in the end, was the 2-2 scoreline.

  1. Don’t think that Danny Kelly really watched the match. The real stat is Spurs 2 goals from 3 shots = 67% success; City 2 goals from 30 shots 6.7% success, or rather 93.3% failure. Sorry Danny, watch a few more games, it might help you understand football a bit more!

  2. Kelly is absolutely right, Spurs were dire and didn’t deserve a result. I’m a Spurs fan and I felt embarrassed at how the team played. The other comment here about the goal/shot ratio is completely missing the point. If we play like we did against City all season, we’ll get relegated!! There is not justification to try and defend the result, we were rubbish, like scared kids playing against men. No real will to get forward, lazy, lethargic and devoid of any attacking imagination.

  3. I am sure we could have attacked and played some decent stuff but would likely have lost be a few goals so it is what it is and it has been regularly the case that spurs could have put six past sides who ended up getting something from us so whatever.
