Graham Roberts singles out three Spurs players for praise

When Spurs were handed a home match against a newly-promoted side for the first game of the season, many fans would have been confident.

However, Aston Villa took the lead inside 10 minutes and, for a long time, looked as if they were going to canter to all three points.

Spurs improved dramatically in the second half and the introduction or Eriksen certainly made all the difference for Pochettino.

Spurs scored three in the last 15 minutes to secure a 3-1 victory, but it was anything but easy.

New signing Tanguy Ndombele had an impressive debut and scored the equalizer, followed by a quickfire Harry Kane double late in the game.

Tottenham legend Graham Roberts took to Twitter after the game to praise the performances of the duo who got on the scoresheet as well as Christian Eriksen, who came on midway into the second half and was crucial to helping the Lilywhites turn the game around.

The Former Spurs captain insisted that Pochettino’s men deserved the three points against Villa.

In a way, it was a positive that Tottenham were made to work hard on the opening day of the season. It proves that the team’s fitness and mentality are all positive coming into what will be an important season for the club. The visit to the Etihad stadium next week will be a much sterner test and will tell us a lot about the squad.
