Graham Roberts urges Mourinho to not repeat Newcastle selection mistake

Graham Roberts has urged Jose Mourinho to start Toby Alderweireld in every single game after Davinson Sanchez put in another poor performance against Newcastle this afternoon.

Jose Mourinho decided to keep faith with the same team that beat Aston Villa, with Sanchez starting alongside Joe Rodon at centre-back for the second consecutive game.

Sanchez seemed to have turned a corner after a difficult start to the season but the Colombian once again displayed his frailties this afternoon as Joelinton often got the better of him in duals.

The 24-year-old also looked shaky every time he got on the ball and it was his poor clearance that led to Newcastle’s opener.

Even though Tottenham fought back to lead through a first-half brace by Harry Kane, the away side never really looked comfortable after the interval, with the Magpies continuously causing problems with long balls down the channels.

The late equaliser once again came as a result of Tottenham’s failure to deal with a cross into the box.

After the 2-2 draw, Roberts took to social media to claim that Alderweireld is Spurs’ best defender and insisted Mourinho cannot afford to leave the Belgian out.

If we want to play on the front foot, our centre-backs have to be able to deal with one vs one situations. Unfortunately, Alderweireld is not the same player he was a couple of years ago and often gets beaten when he is isolated. So the Belgian is not the answer to our problems either.
