Graham Roberts urges Tottenham to snap up 27-year-old centre-back this summer

Graham Roberts has urged Tottenham Hotspur to snap up Inter Milan centre-back Milan Skriniar in the summer.

After Antonio Conte’s appointment at Tottenham, the North London club were backed to reignite their interest in Skiniar in the January transfer window (CalcioMercato) but that did not come to pass.

A centre-back is thought to be on the top of Spurs’ wishlist ahead of the summer transfer window, with the likes of Lille’s Sven Botman said to be on the club’s radar (Telegraph)

Skriniar’s Inter teammate Stefan de Vrij is also said to be one of the options Tottenham are looking at, with Conte thought to be keen on reuniting with the 30-year-old at his new club (Fc Inter News).

Inter Live even suggested last week that Inter would be open to cashing on De Vrij amidst Spurs’ interest and that Conte had personally asked the Lilywhites hierarchy to snap up the Netherlands international in the summer.

However, Roberts believes it is Skriniar rather than the more experienced De Vrij who would be a better fit for Tottenham.

Here’s what the legendary Spurs defender tweeted:

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not see Spurs prioritising a move for Skriniar in the summer as a left-sided centre-back would be Conte’s priority and the Slovakian is not a natural fit for that role.

That is also why I do not see De Vrij being on Tottenham’s radar unless Conte wants the 30-year-old as cover for Eric Dier.

Spurs are more likely to pursue a player like Romagnoli, De Ligt or Botman, who can slot in alongside Dier and Romero in the back three.
