“Retire at Spurs” – Some fans are delighted by player’s commitment to the club

Hugo Lloris has been one of Tottenham’s best performers over the last six seasons since arriving from Lyon in the summer of 2012 for a fee believed to be around £11.8m according to the BBC.

Lloris was one of the most sought after keepers in the world when he arrived and was linked with a move away from the club after Tottenham failed to qualify for the Champions League during the Frenchman’s first two seasons at the club.

However, he stuck with the club and was subsequently made club captain by Mauricio Pochettino, and the team has come on leaps and bounds since.

The France captain came in for a fair bit of criticism last season after making a couple of high profile errors, with many fans even calling for Paulo Gazzaniga to be given the No. 1 shirt.

However, Pochettino kept faith with Lloris and the Frenchman was back to his best in the final few months of the season, and his performances were crucial to Tottenham’s progression to the finals of the Champions League.

The 32-year-old was asked by French outlet Nice-Matin this week if he fancies a move back to OGC Nice, where he began his professional career. The Spurs captain, however, rebuffed the suggestion and reiterated his commitment to Tottenham.

When asked about a return to Nice, Lloris said (Nice-Matin): “To live? Definitely! A return to the club – it’s hard to promise things. I’m still a fan, but I’ve career plans & I’m under contract at Spurs, where I hope we’ll be successful. Maybe the question will come later, but not today.”

Some Spurs fans were delighted at the goalkeeper’s statement, with a few even suggesting that he should retire at the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s great to see fans give such an overwhelmingly positive response to these comments by Lloris, despite some of his errors last season. We believe that the Frenchman is by far the best keeper the club have had in the Premier League era and that he certainly has a few more good years left in him.
