‘Green light’ – Van der Vaart reveals what he told Tottenham about Arne Slot

Rafael van der Vaart says that he could not recommend Arne Slot highly enough to Tottenham when his former club asked him about the Dutch coach.

The speculation linking Arne Slot with a move to Spurs has now reached a fever pitch, with multiple sources now reporting that he is the North London club’s top target.

Fabrizio Romano said on his YouTube channel on Monday that the 44-year-old will have ‘direct conversations’ with the Feyenoord hierarchy to ‘understand potential conditions and potential compensation’ for him to leave De Kuip.

The journalist stated that Slot is ‘really appreciated’ by Spurs and he now has a ‘concrete chance’ of getting the Tottenham job.

He even asserted that even sources close to Luis Enrique, Ange Postecoglou and Ruben Amorim believe that the Feyenoord boss is now ‘the big favourite’ to replace Antonio Conte.

Van der Vaart has now revealed that Spurs did ask him around a month ago what he thought of Slot.

The former Tottenham midfielder told Voetbal Zone: “I do know that Tottenham really want him.

“I had contact with Tottenham a long time ago. Or yes, a month ago. They asked me what I thought of him.

“But you know what I think of him. He squeezed out the maximum; Feyenoord are so stable. Even today, after they found out and partied all week. He takes other teams seriously and just wins.”

When asked if he gave the green light for the Lilywhites to pursue the 44-year-old, Van der Vaart responded: “Very green light. Tottenham are a club where I spent two years and I have a good relationship with them.

“I don’t know if they want to get a technical director first and then a manager. They just lack a good coach and a coach who plays the nice football that Tottenham have always stood for.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Every single pundit and journalist associated with Dutch football seems to wax lyrical about the job that Slot has done at AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord.

His reputation seems to be even greater than the one Erik Ten Hag had prior to his switch to Old Trafford, which is an encouraging sign.
