‘Growing on me immensely’ – Ramon Vega impressed by Spurs youngster

Ramon Vega has reserved special praise for Oliver Skipp after the midfielder put in another solid and energetic display against Newcastle yesterday.

Skipp has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season with Spurs after returning from his impressive loan spell at Norwich last season. The 21-year-old looks set to establish himself as a regular in the starting eleven this season.

After being left on the bench in the North London derby, the youngster has proven his worth to Nuno Espirito Santo in the wins over Aston Villa and Newcastle.

The Tottenham academy graduate showed maturity beyond his years at St James’ Park yesterday as he mopped up expertly in front of the back four and was extremely tidy in possession.

The defensive protection offered by the double-pivot of Skipp and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg allowed Tanguy Ndombele, Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane the freedom to express themselves and the Magpies backline struggled to cope with Spurs’ firepower.

Here’s what Vega tweeted following Tottenham’s 3-2 win:

The last two games have clearly shown that the balance of the side is much better with two midfield pivots and with Ndombele operating in the number ten role.

The most impressive thing about Skipp is the maturity he is showing for his age. Given his mindset, the 21-year-old seems destined to reach the very top.
