The Guardian name five Tottenham stars in their top 100 footballers of 2022

The Guardian have released the names of their top 100 players across the 2022 calendar year, and five Spurs stars are on the list.

Hugo Lloris finds himself in 76th place, having led France to the final of the World Cup, where they were beaten on penalties by Argentina.

The Frenchman has fallen short of his usual high standards this season for the Lilywhites but finishing as the runner-up in Qatar is enough to see the Spurs captain get a place on the list.

Cristian Romero, who was part of the Argentina side that created history in Qatar, by lifting the World Cup after 38 years, is named 72nd on the list.

The centre-back has not been able to capture the same form at club level that he showed last season but his international exploits have seen him being named in The Guardian’s top 100.

Richarlison is named by the publication as the 61st best footballer in the world in 2022 on the back of netting thrice for Brazil in Qatar.

Unsurprisingly, Heung-min Son breaks the top 26 after his Golden Boot victory last season, while Harry Kane comes in at 13th in the world.

One surprise is perhaps that the likes of Ivan Perisic and Rodrigo Bentancur miss out.
