Guardiola asked if Kane would have done as well as Haaland at Man City

Pep Guardiola has admitted that he does not know whether Harry Kane would have scored as many goals for Manchester City as Erling Haaland if the Premier League champions had signed the Tottenham man.

Kane pushed to join City in the summer of 2021 (The Athletic) after Guardiola’s men expressed interest in the England captain but Tottenham managed to hold firm and hang on to their centre-forward.

The 29-year-old now appears to be a lot happier in North London, with reports indicating that Spurs are optimistic that the striker will be open to signing a new contract when the time is right (Ben Jacobs).

Kane has made an impressive start to the campaign but he has a lot of ground to make up in the race for the Golden Boot, with Haaland having found the back of the net 15 times in his first nine Premier League matches (Transfermarkt).

Alan Shearer claimed this week that had the Spurs star joined City, he would have scored just as many as the Norwegian (The Athletic).

When Guardiola was asked what he thought about Shearer’s comments, he said (via MEN): “I don’t know. I don’t have the ability to know what would happen if Harry Kane was here. Alan was a striker maybe he knows better than me.”

Kane would get as many goal contributions as Haaland had he been at City. While the 22-year-old might get a few more goals, the England captian would have likely chipped in with a few more assists.

Despite the impressive start that Haaland has made to his Premier League career, the Tottenham striker will believe that he can still win the Golden Boot this season.
