Guardiola highlights rubbish atmosphere at the Etihad

Tottenham Hotspur deservedly beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final last Tuesday night.

The Lilywhites will take a narrow 1-0 advantage into the Etihad, thanks to Heung-min Son’s solo effort in 78th minute of the clash.

There is no doubt that the atmosphere at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium pushed Mauricio Pochettino’s men to their maximum and left City players in shock.

The current Premier League holders were faced with a wall of immense noise when they visited the new White Hart Lane, something that they are definitely not used to at the Etihad.

Ahead of tomorrow’s incredibly important game, the City boss has told the Independent that Manchester City fans need to create the same kind of atmosphere as Tottenham supporters did in the first leg of the Champions League tie.

As City face Spurs looking to turn the tie around, the home support could make all the difference.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager said (Independent): “Sorry guys, I’m a failure in this competition but many times I played in the semi-final and quarter-finals, and every time I played away the atmosphere was really incredible.

“They support their local teams. We need it. Really, we need it.

“I want to see that they want to get to the semi-finals. Not the players, the players no doubt after 20 months.

“I want to see my fans, our fans, that they really want the semi-finals. I want to see that tomorrow.”

The narrow 1-0 lead puts Tottenham in a fairly good position. If Spurs find the net tomorrow, City will be forced to score at least three goals.

There is also a number of tickets left on restricted sale for tomorrow’s game, so as always the stadium will not be full.
