Gudmundsson’s father admits he doesn’t want Spurs to win the race for his son

Albert Gudmundsson’s father has now said that he would like to see his son remain in Serie A rather than move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

Gudmundsson has been one of the best attackers on show in the Italian top-flight this season, with 16 goals and four assists across all competitions so far in 2023-24 (Transfermarkt).

Various reports in Italy have indicated over the last few weeks that Tottenham, Juventus and Inter Milan are all quite keen on securing the Iceland international’s services this summer (SportItalia).

It has also been suggested by various outlets recently that the Lilywhites might hold an advantage in the race as they would be able to meet Genoa’s asking price while the Bianconeri and the Nerazzurri might find it quite difficult to do so (Tuttosport via Sport Witness).

Albert Gudmundsson to Tottenham links refuse to go away

Gudmundsson’s father, Gugmundur Benediktsson, has now said that his son is loving life in Genoa but refused to close the door on a summer move.

When asked if the forward will leave the club this summer, he told Calciomercato.it: “It’s a really difficult question. He loves his life in Genoa and I still see him there, but in football, anything can happen. It should not be forgotten that Genoa are also a great club.”

When asked if he would prefer his son to remain in Serie A or move to the Premier League, he responded: “I think every footballer wants to play at the highest possible level and Albert is probably no exception. Personally, I would like to see him stay in Italy.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think we should take this admission with a pinch of salt as this is what one would expect Gudmundsson’s father to say to an Italian outlet. If Tottenham are serious about their pursuit of the 26-year-old, they should not have too much trouble beating Inter and Juve to the player’s signature.
