27-year-old reveals how phone call with Postecoglou left him convinced to join Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been revealing some of the first contacts he had with Ange Postecoglou ahead of his move to the club.

Vicario was one of the first signings of the Postecoglou era when he joined from Italian club Empoli in a £17.2m deal (Sky Sports).

The Italian has revealed that Postecoglou personally called him prior to sealing his move to Tottenham and impressed the goalkeeper with his knowledge of him.

Postecoglou, who has had to work his way up in the professional game to make it to the Premier League compared himself to the struggles Vicario has experienced in becoming a top-flight player which left him without a shadow of a doubt that this was the right move for him.

Ange Postecoglou phone call impressed Guglielmo Vicario

He told Tottenham’s official YouTube channel: “He called me and it was a very good call. He knew everything about me, about my past, my style of play and my character.

“He said to me a very important and proud thing saying that we both started from the bottom and went through our struggles of life and our career.

“That for me at that time was so important to hear about the man, and I have no doubts to join him and to join Spurs because I think we can do brilliant work together.”

We’ve all seen plenty of interviews from Ange since joining Tottenham and just how well he comes across.

The Australian is a natural people person with no airs and graces which is appreciated by many, including his players within the Tottenham first-team squad.

Vicario’s transfer fee is proving to be one of the deals of the summer considering how well he has adapted to becoming Hugo Lloris‘ successor in N17.
