Guglielmo Vicario sends strong message to Tottenham fans after hurtful mistake triggers mass booing

Guglielmo Vicario has taken to social media to share a message with Tottenham Hotspur supporters after his error against Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur suffered an embarrassing defeat in the North London derby last Sunday, but there were feelings of positivity after a much improved display against PSG on Wednesday.

Any optimism was quickly squashed within the opening six minutes of Fulham’s visit to North London, as the hosts found themselves on the wrong end of a two-goal deficit.

Guglielmo Vicario was the player responsible for conceding the second. His poor clearance only went as far as Josh King, who passed to Harry Wilson before the Wales international scored into an open goal.

Guglielmo Vicario takes responsibility for Tottenham mistake

The Spurs goalkeeper is fully aware of his error against Fulham and he has not shied away from holding his hands up and accepting criticism.

Vicario has made a post on his Instagram account where he has taken responsibility for his mistake and called on his team to give everything for the club.

He wrote: “I take full responsibility for the second goal we conceded. Moments like this hurt, especially when the results aren’t going our way.

“Now more than ever, it’s time to fight even harder and give everything for this club. COYS.”

Thomas Frank was less understanding with the Tottenham fans, claiming that real supporters do not boo individual players during a game.

He said: “I didn’t like that our fans booed at him straight after and a few times after that. They can’t be true Tottenham fans because everyone supports each other when you’re on the pitch and we do everything we can to perform. I’m fine with them booing after the match, no problem, but not during. That is unacceptable in my opinion.”

However, Vicario believes the Spurs fans have a right to boo him if they deem in necesssary.

Spurs fans are tired of Vicario’s futile words

Many Tottenham supporters have commented on Vicario’s post with words of encouragement for the shot-stopper, but not everyone is feeling so kind.

Some have pointed out that actions speak louder than words and this is a problem for Vicario, who says plenty off the pitch, then makes repeated errors during matches.

It would have been easy for the 29-year-old to put the ball out for a throw-in, but he kicked it away into an area of danger.

Vicario makes too many of these types of mistakes and the club’s followers are more interested in seeing him learn from his failures instead of compensating for them with post-match apologies.
