Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Guglielmo Vicario is set to undergo surgery and have revealed when the Italian will be back in action.

For the last 18 months, it appears that Tottenham Hotspur have been stuck in the same frustrating loop as far as their injuries are concerned.

Just as the situation improves a little through the return of some players, other key men pick up serious injuries that sideline them for a while.

Spurs’ injury list was getting shorter ahead of the Nottingham Forest clash, but the same curse struck again, with Vicario now being added to the treatment table.

It emerged a few hours ago that the Tottenham number one may miss the rest of the season due to a hernia problem, but the club have now set the record straight regarding the goalkeeper.

Spurs themselves have now confirmed on social media that the 29-year-old has decided to undergo surgery on his hernia problem.

The club’s update is more positive than initially feared as they describe the procedure as a ‘minor’ one, designed to have a ‘minimal’ impact on Tottenham’s season.

The Lilywhites add that they are hopeful that Vicario will return to action within a month if the surgery and rehabilitation go to plan.

Tottenham said on their X handle: “We can confirm that Guglielmo Vicario will undergo surgery next week on a hernia. The minor procedure for the Italy international goalkeeper has been timed to have as minimal impact on our season as possible. Guglielmo will commence his rehabilitation with our medical staff immediately, and it is hoped that he could return to action within the next month.”

Vicario will play against Nottingham Forest

Alasdair Gold has provided further information on why Tottenham have decided to schedule the procedure for next week.

The journalist explains that Vicario can feature for Igor Tudor’s men this Sunday in the relegation six-pointer against Nottingham Forest, the result of which could define whether the Lilywhites stay up this season.

Gold wrote on X: “Guglielmo Vicario set to undergo hernia surgery next week, but will be available on Sunday for Spurs to face Forest as he continues to play through the pain. He’s expected to then be back within a month and it has been timed with Spurs’ upcoming three-week break in their season.”
