Guillem Balague explains why Spanish giants are keen on Spurs star

Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen’s future has been subject to a lot of speculation recently. The Dane’s contract with the club has just one more season left to run, and he seems to be in no hurry to extend his stay at the club.

The 27-year-old has primarily been linked with a move to Real Madrid as the Los Blancos look to rebuild their squad in the summer, after what has been a disappointing season.

The Spanish giants are also said to pursuing Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. However, recent reports seem to indicate that while manager Zinedine Zidane prefers the World Cup winner, Real president Florentino Perez would rather sign the Spurs man.

Now, Journalist, Guillem Balague has echoed a similar sentiment according to The Express. The 51-year-old, who also authored the book about Mauricio Pochettino; ‘Brave New World’, told the publication that Real want to replace Luka Modric with one of either Pogba or Eriksen.

Balague said, “I’m quite certain [Real president] Florentino Perez and the club would like Eriksen instead. Cheaper and a more Real Madrid player.

“Modric I believe they want to sell because they need to raise money, so you don’t have Modric but you have Eriksen, that’s sorted out.

“But do you really need Pogba? Zidane thinks he does and the club thinks they don’t.”

This is a deal that looks pretty nailed on to happen as Daniel Levy won’t be able to demand the asking price he would like owing to the midfielder’s contract situation.

Even if Eriksen does end up joining Madrid, Tottenham need to get the deal done over with quickly and reinvest the money back into the squad rather than letting the situation drag on until the last minute.
