Guillem Balague explains why Spurs are not considering Pochettino – They did make contact

Journalist Guillem Balague has said that Tottenham and Mauricio Pochttino are simply in ‘different places’ right now as the North London club are looking for a young, up-and-coming manager rather than an experienced one.

Pochettino remains a popular figure among Spurs fans on the back of his five-and-a-half-year spell at the club, with some supporters even singing his name in recent matches in an effort to send a message to Daniel Levy.

However, the Tottenham hierarchy seemingly have no intention of bringing the Argentine back to the club, with Spurs instead reportedly looking to convince Julian Nagelsmann to take the job (The Independent).

Much to the consternation of many Spurs fans, Pochettino now appears to be edging close to agreeing to take over at London rivals, Chelsea (Fabrizio Romano).

Balague has now taken to social media to explain that while Tottenham did make an informal contract with the 51-year-old’s entourage, the Lilywhites decided to look for a less experienced manager instead.

Here’s what the journalist posed:

Spurs Web Opinion

I get the feeling that Levy did not like the way Pochettino conducted himself when the Spurs chairman tried to bring him back to the club in 2021.

It seemed like the Argentine initially expressed a desire to come, only to backtrack in the end and stay at PSG.

Otherwise, I fail to understand why Levy would have been open to the idea of appointing Pochettino two years ago but has now changed his mind.
