Guillem Balague makes revelation involving Christian Eriksen and potential Spanish switch

Football journalist Guillem Balague has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has his heart set on a move to Spain.

Eriksen wasted no time when just days after the Champions League final defeat to Liverpool he told Danish news outlet Ekstra Bladet that he wanted to seek a new challenge away from Tottenham whilst inviting contact from Real Madrid.

The 27-year-old found himself still at Spurs beyond the closure of the European transfer window with Balague suggesting that neither Madrid or Barcelona have expressed enough interest.

The playmaker is out of contract at Tottenham at the end of the current campaign and will be able to talk to European clubs in January ahead of becoming a free agent.

Bayern Munch were also reported to be interested in a move for the former Ajax star Sport1 with Ballague suggesting that Eriksen has already made up his mind on where he wants to play.

He wrote on BBC Sport: “Christian Eriksen has been offered a new contract but he needs a new challenge and prefers a move to La Liga, but neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid have shown enough interest to take him away.”

Opinion

If neither Spanish side are interested in Eriksen it could allow him to chance his mind over snubbing contract talks with Spurs.

Retaining an on-form Eriksen would only be good news for the club.
