Guillem Balague has revealed that the only way Mauricio Pochettino can leave Paris Saint-Germain is if he publicly announces his intention to quit the club.
According to Alasdair Gold, Pochettino remains Tottenham’s number one target but the club still have plenty of work to do to get the Argentine, with PSG determined to hold on to their head coach.
Reports from France revealed on Sunday that the Ligue 1 giants had triggered a clause to extend Pochettino’s contract by another year.
Some sources suggested that this could have been a move by the Parisians to ensure they get a substantial payoff if the former Spurs boss leaves.
Balague, who is close with Pochettino, having authored ‘Brave New World’, a book that explored the inside story of the 49-year-old’s time at Spurs, has now contradicted that claim.
He insisted that the clause in Pochettino’s contract got automatically triggered when PSG qualified for the Champions League.
The Spanish journalist also added while Spurs and Real Madrid are both showing interest in Pochettino, the only way he could leave PSG is if he was open about his desire to do so.
On Pochettino. By qualifying to the CL, his contract gets automatically renewed by an extra year.
The interest from Spurs and Team Madrid is real. PSG (as Leonardo has said) want him to stay
The only way for him to move away would be if he said publicly he wants to go

It sounds like what Balague is suggesting is that if Pochettino expresses his desire to leave, Spurs and Real Madrid would be able to get him by paying off the remainder of his contract. It remains to be seen whether the Argentine would ask to leave as he is not the sort of personality to quit on a project halfwaythrough.
