Tottenham Hotspur left it late to beat Bournemouth in the Premier League this afternoon, and goalscorer Ryan Sessegnon has spoken after the game about getting on the scoresheet just before he was about to be substituted.
Spurs traveled to the Vitality Stadium in desperate need of a good result after losing their last two league games against Manchester United and Newcastle United.
A dire first half saw Spurs one goal down and looking out of the game altogether after Kieffer Moore had converted a cool finish in the box and put a towering header past Hugo Lloris in the Spurs goal just minutes after the break.
With Antonio Conte’s men chasing the game, the Italian prepared three changes – Eric Dier, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Ivan Perisic. The latter didn’t make it on to the pitch until later though, because Ryan Sessegnon, who was set to be replaced, burst through the Cherries’ defence and got Spurs back in the game just before the hour mark.
Speaking to BBC Sport after the match, Sessegnon recognised the fact he scored just in time to earn himself some extra minutes on the pitch.
He said: “Obviously it was disappointing to be 2-0 down with some lapses in concentration, but we knew if we scored one goal the momentum could switch and that is what happened today.
“I had a little feeling as I looked over and saw [Perisic] getting ready to come on but it is just one of them things that I had to make sure to leave my mark just before, and thankfully I stayed on for a little bit longer,” he added.
On stepping up when it mattered for his boss, Sessegnon said: “I have a good relationship with him and I just try to be as consistent as I can for him.”

Ryan Sessegnon has developed his game so much over the past 12 months, particularly in getting forward and being involved in attacking areas. It was a great bit of movement and an even better finish from him today, and a crucial goal that truly changed the game.
