Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa has spoken about Tottenham’s clause to recall Luka Vuskovic and whether he expects the North London club to activate it.
There is plenty of excitement among Spurs fans to see how Vuskovic will get on in the Bundesliga following his loan move to Hamburg.
However, the 18-year-old has surpassed all expectations in his first few outings for the newly-promoted German side, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s most important players.
Vuskovic even won the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month award for September in his first time of asking, and one would not bet against the defender winning the award many times across the campaign.

Hamburg director sets record straight on Luka Vuskovic’s Tottenham return
In fact, the teenager has been so good at the start of the season, reports have indicated that Tottenham could recall Vuskovic from his loan to boost their options at centre-back.
The Lilywhites do have the option to prematurely end the centre-back’s loan, but Hamburg sporting director Claus Costa has now insisted that he does not expect the Premier League club to activate it.
Costa explained that his dealings with Tottenham Hotspur have been extremely professional and suggested that the North London club want to see the centre-back continue to develop in the north of Germany.
When asked about Vuskovic’s recall clause, the HSV director told Transfermarkt.de: “We had very constructive discussions with Tottenham; they’re a top-professional club, judging by the communication with loan manager Andy Scoulding.
“They’re closely monitoring the player, which shows how they assess Luka. Tottenham isn’t interested in weakening us or ruining the loan. It’s understandable that they’re trying to protect themselves against possible worst-case scenarios. Otherwise, I don’t want to comment further.
“I believe Tottenham also knows how good the situation here is for Luka. That’s why I hope we never get into a situation where we have to think about anything else.”
Vuskovic’s mind-blowing numbers so far this season
According to DataMB, Vuskovic leads the Bundesliga for duels won and interceptions per 90 minutes.
Among centre-backs under 23 years of age across Europe’s top-five leagues, the Tottenham defender is a league of his own for aerial duels won and progressive carries.
In fact, Vuskovic has even made it into WhoScored’s Team of the Season so far among Europe’s top-five leagues, which is not surprising, given the numbers he is posting.
