‘Happened with Lukaku’ – Former defender urges £68m striker to join Spurs

Former Italy defender Daniele Adani has urged Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic to join Tottenham Hotspur since he believes Antonio Conte can help the striker flourish like he did with Romelu Lukaku.

Adani was discussing the striker’s future on BoboTV alongside former Italy stars Antonio Cassano and Christian Vieri, with all three agreeing he should look to further his career away from Italy.

Vlahovic, 21, is set to be the biggest target in the transfer market for top clubs around Europe having told I Viola his intentions not to extend his current deal at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

The Serbia international, who is valued at €80 million (£78m), has scored 17 goals in 18 appearances in all competitions for Fiorentina this season, with 15 of them coming in Serie A.

Spurs and manager Conte have been said to have shortlisted Vlahovic as a prime target ahead of the January transfer window, as the Italian looks to strengthen his options up front alongside the struggling Harry Kane.

However, ex-Italy striker Cassano first tipped Vlahovic to join Manchester City instead, by suggesting Pep Guardiola could make him reach the level of Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Cassano said: “Choose Guardiola and go to Manchester City. I don’t know if you will already be up to it. But in just one-year with him, you would reach the level of Haaland.

“If, on the other hand, at 20 you find a manager who does not know how to talk and work with you, your growth ends.”

Vieri then added: “Juventus? No, Vlahovic must go abroad. He is very strong and must choose one of the top-four teams in the world.”

However, Adani feels Spurs would be a good fit for Vlahovic as Conte helped now-Chelsea forward Lukaku blossom into one of the world’s best strikers during his time at Inter Milan.

The Belgium international scored 24 goals in 36 appearances for I Nerazzurri on the way to romping to the Serie A crown last season.

Adani said: “Why not choose Conte and Tottenham? Antonio would make Vlahovic grow, as happened with Lukaku at Inter.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Vlahovic has been so impressive for Fiorentina this season and he will slot seamlessly into any side the way he has been performing. He will cost any club a serious amount of money, though, and that is something Spurs may not want to do, especially in the January transfer window.
