“He’s not happy and he’s eyeing a January move”

Heurelho Gomes - Tottenham Hotspur news

Harry Redknapp admits goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes could leave Tottenham in January.

Gomes has not even been on the bench for the last two games with Redknapp instead opting for Brad Friedel.

Redknapp acknowledged Gomes is not happy at being left out and is prepared to let the keeper move on when the transfer window reopens.

“He’s not happy and he’s eyeing a January move,” said Redknapp. “If the chance comes for him to play elsewhere, I’m sure he’ll take it.

“I’ve not bombed out Gomes and made him No. 3 keeper but we decided Carlo Cudicini would be better on the bench.

“Gomes has trained hard but Friedel is fantastic. If ever there was a man who didn’t deserve those two beatings by Manchester United and Manchester City, it was him.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Gomes is a great bloke and a great shot stopper but you feel happier with Friedel in goal. You know he is going to do the bread and butter stuff without dropping the ball every 5 minutes or throwing it in his own net. He has also showed some great form and you can’t leave him out.

  2. Gomes better at the spectacular stuff but I'd take consistency over someone who looks like he should be working in a circus. Come on admit it he'd make a brilliant clown with that dopy grin, spilling everything, pushing everyone over and pretending to be hurt when he's not.

  3. Gomes is a much better goalkeeper than Friedel, but I admit that he made some bad mistakes last year. Still I don't understand how a team like Spurs, that wants to become a top team, is using a 40 year old goalkeeper. That's not how you build a top team. Spurs hould have bought Stekelenburg who was available for only 7 million.
