Hargreaves claims Heung-min Son is best player in the world at one thing

Owen Hargreaves has said that Son Heung-min is the best finisher with his weaker foot in world football.

Spurs fans would have been hoping that the 13-minute hat-trick that Son got against Leicester City ahead of the international break would see the forward come back to his best after a lacklustre start to the season.

However, the South Korean flattered to deceive in the North London derby and the 0-0 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany last week.

The 30-year-old subsequently produced put in his best performance of the season so far in the return leg this week, scoring twice as Spurs emerged 3-2 winners.

Son kept his composure to slide the ball into the net past Kevin Trapp in the Frankfurt goal in the 20th minute after being played through on goal.

The Tottenham star then produced a stunning left-foot volley in the 36th minute that almost ripped through the net. Hargreaves was in awe of how cleanly Son hit that volley on Wednesday.

The former Manchester United midfielder said on BT Sport (12/10/22 from 20:00 onwards as relayed by BBC): “These guys (Tottenham’s front three) are so good. You trust them to go and do the job.

“Son is the best finisher with his weaker foot in the world of football. He could not have hit that volley any sweeter. He can score fabulous goals.”

Son’s overall performance against Frankfurt was more encouraging that his goals, with the South Korean looking back to his best. He has seemed a little tentative in the final third this season but the way he took the Frankfurt defenders on in one vs one situation on Wednesday, suggested that his confidence is now back.
