Harry Kane admits criticism aimed at his brother was hard to take

Harry Kane has admitted that the criticism aimed at his brother and agent, Charlie, during the summer was difficult for him to take.

Kane is represented by his older brother, Charlie, who runs the agency CK66, which understandably got a lot of attention during this summer’s transfer saga.

The striker did not appear to handle things particularly well, with reports indicating at the time that he refused to show up to pre-season training in an effort to push through a move to Manchester City.

There were plenty of leaks to the press until the final weeks of the transfer window and some Spurs fans did not hold back from having a go at Charlie Kane on social media.

When asked about the criticism aimed at his brother during the summer, the Tottenham striker told The Evening Standard: “Whatever the circumstance, whenever there is stuff being written about your family, it’s always maybe a little bit difficult to take, especially when it’s negative,

“But I think that’s when families really come together. Obviously, I’m very close to my brother and my parents, my wife, her family, so there’s plenty of people that I know and trust and am able to talk to.”

The England captain insisted that he did not pay heed to what was being said about the way his brother handled the failed move, insisting that he and Charlie stuck together through the saga.

He added: “It’s never easy when there is any negative story about yourself or someone you know, or your friends, or teammates.

“In the summer, there was a lot of stuff about my brother being my agent. That’s where we stick together. I know what he does for me as an agent, I know what he does for me as a brother and that’s all that matters.

“The rest of it is just noise from our point of view. It’s just about us sticking together and whatever the circumstance, always being there for each other and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The abuse that Charlie Kane received from some Spurs fans on social media during the summer never sat well with me.

For all the lip service that people pay towards mental health these days, they never seem to think twice about having a go at someone if they feel they have been wronged.

While criticism is fair game, abuse is never okay under any circumstances. Some Spurs fans certainly engaged in abuse, with many mocking Charlie for his physical appearance.

The reality is that none of us really know for sure what went on behind the scenes during the summer and what Charlie’s advice to his brother actually was.
