Harry Kane admits he has a ‘freer mind’ following Spurs’ good finish

Harry Kane has revealed that he has a clear mind going into this summer’s international fixtures with England.

Kane was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur last summer with the forward believing he had a gentleman’s agreement with chairman Daniel Levy to leave the club amid interest from Manchester City, only for the Spurs supremo to block any exit (The Athletic).

With Manchester City instead having moved for Erling Haaland, Kane’s realistic opportunities of a move to another Premier League club became severely limited.

Journalist Alasdair Gold recently claimed that Kane would be open to negotiating a new deal with the north London outfit ahead of pre-season if they continue to show ambition and back Antonio Conte in the transfer market (Football.London).

Jonathan Veal believes Kane’s most recent comments are another hint that the marksman is happy at Tottenham (Yahoo).

Kane told Yahoo: “Whenever you finish strongly with your club there is always a freer mind going into the international stage,” he said.

“Obviously, last summer we had a major European competition, a large tournament. So of course you have different feelings towards that than maybe you would towards the Nations League games.

“It was a fantastic summer last year in terms of the tournament. It ended obviously very disappointingly, but going into these games I feel confident, I feel free.

“We had a good finish as a team towards the end of the season and I had a good season personally, which is always great.

“So I am looking forward to carrying that on into these games. Then, as I touched on earlier, getting a nice break over the summer.”

With Spurs having secured Champions League football and the club currently backing Conte in the transfer market, the signs look promising for Kane to extend his stay by signing a new deal.

It would represent a massive boost if he were to put pen to paper on fresh terms and would be a stark contrast to the media circus we all had to endure for the best part of last summer.
