Harry Kane admits he will likely have new Spurs contract talks in ‘coming months’

Harry Kane has told the Evening Standard that he expects to open talks regarding his future at Tottenham Hotspur in the ‘coming months’, but insists he remains focused on the task at hand this season.

The 29-year-old scored the winning goal as Spurs triumphed 1-0 over Fulham last night, and equalled Jimmy Greaves’ record as the club’s all-time leading goalscorer (BBC Sport).

Kane’s status as a club legend in North London is already firmly established, but there have been doubts over how much longer he will stay with Spurs. With his contract expiring in 2024 (Transfermarkt), it had been feared the club would be forced to sell their star man this summer.

There had been speculation linking Kane with a £100 million move away from Spurs recently (Telegraph). However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein suggested Kane was actually open to extending his current deal with Spurs.

Now, it appears the latter is the case, as the man himself has revealed he is ready to talk about a new contract with Spurs.

Kane said: “There’s not been much talk if I’m totally honest. I’m sure there’ll be conversations over the coming months but to be honest I’m just focussed on this season and doing my best for the team.

“There’s still a lot to play for, trying to get in the Champions League, we have the FA Cup and the Champions League still to try to win. My focus is on that.

“I know there’s going to be rumours, a lot of talk and speculation about my future but I’m just focussed on what I can do. Of course, I still want to win trophies for Tottenham Hotspur. That’s been my goal since I started playing first-team football with them. It hasn’t happened.

“I’ve been open about [how I feel about] that but I’ll continue to try to achieve that. We have a really good squad, a fantastic manager and there’s no reason why we still can’t be successful this season. We’ve just got to put everything we can into it and see where we are come May.”

I would love nothing more than for Kane to sign a new deal with us and stay here until he retires. He is so important to everything we do and we will perhaps never get a player like him again. Offer him whatever he wants, Levy, he has to stay!
