Harry Kane admits Spurs players sense a big ‘opportunity’ against Man United

Harry Kane has claimed the Tottenham players are looking at their clash at Old Trafford as an opportunity to build on the momentum forged from their win over Everton and make a statement.

Despite the dominant display that Spurs put in on Monday to thrash Everton 5-0, it is fair to say that not many Tottenham fans will be confident heading into the clash against United.

That is mainly because of the extreme inconsistency Antonio Conte’s men have shown over the last month, with wins away at Man City and Leeds being sandwiched between defeats against the likes of Burnley and Middlesbrough.

Kane admitted that Tottenham are still not the finished product as a side and stated that where they finish this season will be a mark of how far the team has progressed.

The striker told Football.London: “There is still improvement to be had. Obviously, we have had some great games but we have also had some disappointing games as well. I guess we will see over the next 12 games where we are as a team and where we are as a squad.

“Where we finish in the league will be the ultimate test. I still think we are looking for improvement in all areas. We are definitely not the finished article yet.

“It is important that we understand that and have the mindset for that – otherwise, in this league, you can be punished. It is important that we don’t.”

When asked about his own personal form, Kane said: “There have been high performances all round – not just me but the whole team has played really, really well.

“It’s hard to say it is the best football we have played – we have had some great managers over the years and played some great football – but beating Everton 5-0 and beating City away from home are right up there – fantastic results.

“Results that should give us confidence, but like I said, and the manager said, we still need to keep improving and we still need to keep working hard.

“It is great having nights like this but we have got to prove ourselves over the last 12 games. We have got to make sure our mindset is right – and that is what we are trying to do.”

Kane admitted that he and his teammates are embracing the challenge of trying to get a result away at United.

When asked about Saturday’s clash, he said: “United are still one of the best teams in the league. Obviously, they have come off a disappointing result at the weekend.

“There is always going to be a reaction and a bounce-back from their players and we need to make sure we are ready for that.

“We obviously feel that there is an opportunity for us there because we have had a great result and we could try to use that momentum, especially away from home, against their crowd, but it will be a tough game.

“They have got some great players. They beat us earlier on in the season quite comfortably. We have got to have all that in our heads, we have got to make sure we go with the right mindset – it’s a game we are looking forward to.

“Old Trafford away is one of the best games you play in the league and you have got to be excited. You have got to go there and try to be free and put in another good performance.”

The players will certainly not lack belief going into Saturday’s clash, particularly given that we beat Man City at the Etihad not long ago. The first goal on Saturday could prove crucial as both Spurs and United seem like they could crumble when put under pressure.
