Harry Kane fires confident warning at top four rivals

Tottenham Hotspur got off to a winning start at their new stadium last night, putting two goals past Crystal Palace without reply.

Spurs were by no means at their best, but under such pressure to win the historic first match at the newly opened ground, it was all about getting the result.

Tottenham now have four more home games this season, and only two away to cement their position in the Premier League top four.

If Spurs win their four home matches, it will surely be extremely difficult for their rivals to displace them from the Champions League spots.

Spurs currently sit third in the League, a point above Arsenal who lie in fourth. Chelsea and Manchester United make up fifth and sixth, and still have to play each other this season.

Harry Kane is confident that his side can see the remainder of the season out, and has fired a warning to their rivals.

He said (Guardian): “There are no excuses now. We are here, we are home, and if we play like that we will be all right.

“Being on the pitch just felt like home. In the final year at the old White Hart Lane we finished unbeaten and I hope this will be the same.

“City is going to be something special as well. We have got to try to use the occasion and the atmosphere to our advantage but it will be difficult.

“It has been a tough few weeks for us and we are in a battle for the top four. Obviously with United losing [at Wolves on Tuesday], it was up to us to gain a few points on them. I thought we were excellent.”
