Harry Kane hopes that Tottenham Hotspur can do ‘something special’ in Antonio Conte’s first full season in charge.

After securing Champions League qualification on the final day of the 2021/22 campaign, Tottenham have been aggressive this summer in trying to improve their squad rather than resting on their laurels.

The five new faces that have come through the door have bulked up the squad, which was down to its bare bones towards the end of last season, and more new additions are now expected to follow (Fabrizio Romano).

As expected, Conte and his coaching staff have been working the players extremely hard during pre-season to get them as fit as possible ahead of the new campaign.

While the intensity of the fitness work has seen several players collapsing to the ground (Daily Mail), Kane insisted that he and his teammates are enjoying the work they have been putting in.

The striker told Football.London: “It’s been a great pre-season so far. I’ve been back five or six days and it’s been a really good camp. We’ve worked really hard.

“We’ve got some new singings, some new faces, there’s a buzz about the place. It’s been difficult at times in certain sessions but it’s been good and everyone’s excited for the season.

“It’s not the longest pre-season ever. It will only be a few weeks until that first game but that suits us. We’re working in the right direction. Hopefully, we can use some momentum from the end of last season to take it into this year and keep pushing on.”

Kane declared that Spurs will be setting their sights high for the 2022/23 campaign after a few under-par campaigns over recent years.

He added: “For me, it’s just to have another good year, another consistent year. Try and help the team as much as possible, try and score as many goals as I can. From the team’s point of view, it’s always to win trophies.

“There’s a good buzz around the club at the moment but as always you have to go out there and perform and show what you can do when it’s crunch time.

“We haven’t quite done that over the years. Hopefully, with this manager, this squad, we can really push on and try to do something special.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Owing to how we finished the 2021/22 season and the summer transfer business we have done, there is certainly a lot of excitement around the club at the moment.

It is very important we capitalise on that and have a strong start to the season, and ride the wave of momentum for as long as possible.

A bad result or two at the start of the season can completely deflate the mood around the club, which is something Conte will be well aware of.
