“Harry Kane is going to be delighted” – Sheringham on Spurs’ recent activity

Former Tottenham striker Teddy Sheringham believes Gareth Bale is the right man to take the North Londoners that extra step and insisted that Harry Kane will relish the prospect of playing with him.

Sheringham enjoyed a successful second spell at Tottenham after returning to the club in 2001 following four seasons at Manchester United.

However, he revealed that he would have stayed put at White Hart Lane had the club shown more ambition in the transfer market.

The former England striker insisted that Harry Kane will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing alongside the Welshman.

Speaking to Football.London, he said: “Good players want to play with good players, top players want to play with top players.

“I didn’t want to leave Tottenham, I wanted top players to come to Tottenham with me. I could see that was never going to happen.

“But if top players come to Tottenham, Harry Kane is going to be delighted.

“When [Jurgen] Klinsmann came to Tottenham, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It was just ‘I’m playing football with Jurgen Klinsmann every day. He is fantastic, this man’

“Bale will do things in training which Kane will then say ‘I can’t wait to play on a Saturday with him’.

“This is what football is all about at the top level. It’s not all about money, you want to be playing with top players and exciting people who are watching you play football. Simple as that.”

Despite Bale’s unenviable injury record over the past few years, Sheringham believes the 31-year-old will be an asset for Jose Mourinho’s side this season even if he can play around 25 matches.

The 54-year-old added: “He [Bale] is a player of immense talent, unbelievable talent. If you get the chance to sign him then you have got to.

“Yeah, his best days might be behind him, and injury-wise you might worry a little bit. But to have him in your team for 25 out of 45 games in a season, you would be delighted to see the impact he would have.

“I don’t think you could pick a player that would come to play at Tottenham at the moment who would have more impact than someone like Gareth Bale at the moment. So I think it would be an absolutely fantastic signing.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Irrespective of whether Bale manages to live up to expectations are not, there is no doubt that this signing signals intent from the club. We need to continue shopping at the top table if we are going to convince the likes of Kane and Son that they can achieve all their ambitions at Spurs.
