Harry Kane or Neymar? Lucas Moura reveals who he would rather play with

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Lucas Moura was recently asked who he would rather play alongside if he had to pick – his Spurs teammate Harry Kane, or his fellow Brazilian Neymar.

Despite his best efforts to avoid choosing, Moura eventually gave an answer…

Moura has been at Tottenham since January 2018, and has made 204 appearances for the North London club. He has contributed 38 goals and 27 assists in that time (Transfermarkt).

On the international front, Moura has 35 caps for the Brazilian national team since making his debut back in 2011 (Transfermarkt).

Of late, Moura has fallen down the pecking order for both club and country. The arrivals of Dejan Kulusevski and compatriot Richarlison have seen Moura shift to the peripheries of Antonio Conte’s squad, and injuries haven’t helped either.

Still, Moura has played with some of the greatest players of our generation, both in North London and in Brazil. At the very top of those lists for Moura, one would imagine, are Harry Kane and Neymar.

In a recent interview with Ouest France however, Moura was given the difficult task of selecting just one of his teammates to play alongside.

He said: “I think they are different positions. I think Harry Kane is more of a born centre-forward, that number 9 shirt, who also has a lot of quality to make a number 10. Who manages to set up the team too, who can go down to receive the ball and set up the team.

“So much so that he was top scorer and assists leader next-to-last season. So he has a lot of quality.

“And Neymar is a genius. A guy from another planet. What he does with the ball is impressive. Right, left, he knows how to score, he’s very light, he dribbles easily.

“So if I could choose, I would choose both for my team, because I think the two would complement each other very well.

Moura’s diplomacy was admirable, but he eventually gave an answer: “I think I’ll stay with our friend, our compatriot Neymar, who is Brazilian, the same language, the same idiom, we understand each other, play truco together.

“So if I could choose, not to be on the fence, I would choose him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Neymar and Harry Kane are indeed very different players, who offer very different skill sets to their respective teams. Neymar certainly has more flair and is capable of producing real magic on the pitch, while Kane just seems to make everything look so easy.

I understand Lucas Moura’s decision, which comes down to his and Neymar’s shared culture and togetherness as countrymen. If I could only pick one player for my team though, it would be Harry Kane. The guy has everything, and you simply cannot bet against him coming up with the goods when you need a goal.
