Harry Kane has praised the impact which Erling Haaland has had since joining Manchester City this summer.
Kane was heavily linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium during the summer of 2021 with City boss Pep Guardiola admitting that he wanted to sign the England captain, only to find Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to enter into talks (Manchester Evening News).
City instead turned their attention towards the 22-year-old, who joined the Premier League champions in a £51.5million move from Borussia Dortmund this summer (Guardian).
Haaland has enjoyed an impressive start at Pep Guardiola’s side, having scored fourteen goals in just ten matches across all competitions (transfermarkt).
Kane acknowledged the start that Haaland has enjoyed, however, has insisted that he prefers to focus on his own game while also admitting that Tottenham have plenty of room for improvement, despite remaining unbeaten in their first seven top flight fixures.
The two prolific strikers were set to share the field earlier this month, only for Tottenham’s trip to Manchester to be postponed following the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.
Ahead of England’s match against Italy on Friday, Kane told the Daily Mail: “Everyone’s talking about Haaland because he’s had an incredible start to the season, so rightly so. As you know me, I don’t focus on too many other people, I focus on myself and what I can do.

“We’ve had a good start to the season with Spurs, we probably haven’t played our best football but that’s a good sign to be where we are knowing we can improve. And it’s probably one of the best starts I’ve had in the Premier League.”

Kane is right to admit there is plenty of room for improvement at Tottenham this season, given they have not performed to the best of their ability despite picking up some important results.
