Harry Kane responds after Michael Owen labels him ‘nuts’ for leaving Tottenham

Harry Kane has responded to Michael Owen’s comment, questioning why the striker swapped Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich.

Kane swapped Spurs for the Allianz Arena just a little over two years ago, and he is already breaking all sorts of goal records at the Bundesliga giants.

The 32-year-old has already scored 91 goals and provided 28 assists in just 100 matches for the German side.

Kane also got his hands on his elusive trophy last year, firing Bayern to the Bundesliga title, but not everyone is convinced that it was the right move for the England captain.

Harry Kane explains why he swapped Tottenham for Bayern Munich

One of those is Michael Owen, who said recently that Kane was ‘nuts’ to leave England two years ago (Daily Mail).

The former Tottenham Hotspur man has now responded to Owen’s claim, explaining that his intention behind the move was not to just win a trophy but to compete regularly at the highest level.

When asked if he heard Owen’s comments, Kane said (via ESPN): “I heard it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I’ve spent a bit of time with him [Owen], but don’t know him well. Obviously, he is a Premier League great and an England great as well so I’ll respect him as a person.

“But ultimately, as he will know, everyone’s career is different — everyone’s decisions and motivations are different. I know he was insinuating I went just for the trophy, but it was to be at the highest level for as long as possible, and I’m really happy in that sense of playing big games, title runs, big Champions League matches, and Club World Cup quarter-final.

“I feel I’m improving as a player, I’m pushing my limits as a player in terms of goalscoring and just improving. It’s hard not to hear things these days but the decisions are best for me, and I’m really happy that I made that decision and very happy at Bayern Munich now.”

Kane could be set for Premier League return next summer

Various outlets have reported over the last few months that the England captain could return to the Premier League next summer after the 2026 World Cup.

Kane’s contract at Bayern has a release clause which will continue to drop with each transfer window, which means that a deal will not be difficult for Premier League clubs to do.

Additionally, Tottenham added a first refusal clause when they sold Kane to Bayern, which potentially gives the Lilywhites an advantage over other suitors should the striker decide to leave the German club.
