Harry Kane reveals secret physio has helped him reach new physical heights

According to The Daily Mirror, Harry Kane has been using a secret physio, with the striker admitting that he is now in a ‘totally different place’ owing to the work he has put in.

There was a period in his career where Kane seemed to be picking up a major injury almost every season. However, the striker has managed to stay fit throughout the last two campaigns, and the 29-year-old has put that down to the physio he has worked with.

The Mirror state that the striker has the full blessing of his club to work with the specialist, who is flown in from Spain each month and stays at his house for a week at a time.

Kane admitted that working with the physio has helped him get a better understanding of how hard to push his body.

The striker is quoted as saying to The Mirror: “I was at a period in my career where I was struggling to play consistently throughout a season. Especially when you come up to major tournaments, it’s great to know your body is in a good place.

“Of course, you can get injured at any moment, whether it’s a tackle or a bad movement but I think when you’re free in your mind and you’ve been playing consistently for a while, it definitely helps with your mindset going into the seasons and major tournaments.

“Whenever you’re trying to put a good season together, you’re on good form and you consistently get the same kind of injuries – I kept getting ankle injuries and that led to a bigger hamstring injury.

“So I think as I’ve got older and more mature, you learn more about your body and how your body adapts to stuff, when you can push and when you should not push too hard.

“So you learn as you go on, and I’ve definitely learnt really well over the last few years about my body and myself. That’s helped me to consistently play at the level I have.”

The England captain admitted that the hours he has put in with the specialist have made a major difference to his ankles.

He said about the physio in question: “He’s been really great for me, we’ve worked for hours and hours over the three years, built up a really good relationship and I feel like he’s really helped me get my body.

“I’ve seen changes in my body in terms of what my ankles were like before and now after. I’m in a totally different place. So it’s really pleasing, I’ve kept that under the radar. Not now!”

This perhaps also sheds some light on why Kane has started dropping deeper over the past two seasons and does not press with as much intensity as he used to under Mauricio Pochettino.

So, rather than that being a tactical decision by Mourinho, as some seemed to think, it was likely borne out of necessity after the striker realised that his body was not capable of making as many sprints as he used to.
