Harry Kane says ‘fast’ 25-year-old Tottenham teammate has a ‘great future’

Harry Kane has lavished praise on Cristian Romero, remarking that he has all the attributes that a top modern-day central defender needs.

Romero has had an excellent couple of years for both club and country, helping Argentina win the Copa American and the World Cup titles while also seamlessly making the transition to the Premier League after his switch to Tottenham from Atalanta in 2021.

However, the centre-back has not been in particularly good form over the last few months and has been guilty of making some poor errors at the back.

The 25-year-old has not been helped by the fact that he is playing in a leaky backline but some Spurs fans, who previously reserved their scrutiny to the likes of Eric Dier and Ben Davies, have now started questioning the Argentine’s role in the team’s defensive struggles.

However, Kane is in no doubt that Romero will go on to have a great future if he continues improving his game.

The Tottenham striker told ESPNfutbolArgentina about his teammate: “Cuti is fantastic.

“He doesn’t panic to play. He’s everything a team wants from a centre-back: aggressive, smart and fast.

“He is a good person and I hope he continues to improve. He has a great future.”

Romero is certainly deserving of criticism for his recent form but there is no doubt that he has the attributes to be a top defender.

Most Spurs fans would agree that he is perhaps the only component in the backline that does not need to be changed this summer.
