Harry Kane sends message following FA Cup win

Tottenham overcame Middlesbrough 2-1 in the FA Cup third-round replay yesterday evening to seal progression into the fourth round of the competition.

Jose Mourinho named yet another strong starting eleven for the match just as he did for the fixture at the Riverside Stadium a week ago.

Japhet Tangaga kept his place in the side after his impressive performance against Liverpool on Saturday while Jan Vertonghen came back into the defence in place of Toby Alderweireld to captain the side.

Meanwhile, both Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela also came into the side and the pair were Tottenham’s most potent attacking threats all game. Both Argentine internationals got on the scoresheet to put Spurs 2-0 up early in the match.

The Lilywhites played some lovely football in the first half and missed several chances to further extend their lead.

Jonathan Woodgate’s side gave a much better account of themselves in the second half and managed to grab a goal back late in the game, but Spurs held on to set up a clash against Southampton at the St Mary’s Stadium in the next round.

Harry Kane, who is currently recovering from a hamstring injury, took to social media to congratulate his teammates on the win.

Spurs Web Opinion

This was an extremely important victory as the FA Cup represents our only realistic chance of ending the season with some form of silverware. It is clear that Mourinho is taking the competition seriously. While the game against Southampton at the end of the month will be quite difficult, we will hopefully have the likes of Ndombele and Davies back from injury before then.
