Harry Maguire names one particular skill Kane is ‘really good at’ – Not shooting or passing

Harry Maguire has said that Harry Kane is really good at attacking the ball from set-pieces, insisting that it is an area of real strength for England.

Despite some of the doom and gloom that surrounded England after their 0-0 draw against the United States last week, the Three Lions have comfortably qualified for the knockout stages.

Gareth Southgate’s men have scored nine goals in their three matches while conceding just two, and have arguably looked like one of the best teams in the tournament so far.

One area of strength for England over recent years, including in the last two major tournaments, has been the threat they pose from corner kicks and free-kicks.

They have once again looked quite dangerous in those situations in Qatar, even though just one of their goals have come from set-pieces, with Maguire heading a corner kick down for Bukayo Saka to slam home against Iran.

The Manchester United centre-back revealed that he, Kane and John Stones work on set-piece situations in training.

When asked about England’s proficiency from corners, Maguire said on On Lions’ Den: “We tried to work on a little bit for [John] Stonesy against Wales.

“We have three or four who can really attack the ball and score from set plays. H (Kane) is really good at it as well. We’re a big threat from it, we work hard at it, it’s not just luck that it comes from!”

Maguire and Stones are both excellent at winning the ball in the air while we know Kane’s ability to sniff chances at the far post. Corners and set pieces are certainly an avenue that England will want to capitalise on in the knockout stages, given the fine margins between the sides.
