Tottenham Hotspur take on Ajax in the Champions League semi-final tonight, but they will do so without their two academy star Harry’s, Winks and Kane.
Kane is out injured with an ankle ligament problem, and it was announced by Tottenham yesterday that Winks had undergone surgery on his groin to help ease his own injury problem.
This is a big blow for Tottenham, as Winks and Moussa Sissoko have been the club’s first choice pairing through this season, and have been a huge part of the club’s success.
Spurs stated that Winks would now be monitored by medical staff as he undergoes recovery, followed by rehabilitation.
It is a heartbreaking time for Winks to pick up an injury, as his boyhood club play in their first ever Champions League semi-final.
He would also likely be in the England squad this summer for the Nations League semi-final, which he will be desperate to play a part in, especially after missing the last World Cup through injury.
However, Winks has now revealed on Twitter that he aims to return before the end of this season.
Im absolutely gutted that I’ve needed to have surgery at such a vital point in our season. We’ve tried everything to avoid this action but I’m very hopeful that this is not the end of the season for me yet in what has been a great year for the team and me personally #COYS ?

Spurs Web Opinion:
Surgery definitely sounds like the best option for Winks, Tottenham, and England in the long-run, although it is upsetting to see him miss out on another big match for his boyhood club. It is also worrying that this is the midfielder’s second surgery in the space of a year, and I hope he is not further hampered with problems through his career. Let’s hope that Winks at the very least makes it back for the beginning of June to potentially play in a Champions League final and the Nations League.
