Harry Winks reveals when he will ‘have a conversation’ with Nuno about his future

Harry Winks has admitted that he will have a conversation with Nuno Espirito Santo about his future when the time is right but insisted he is fully focused on performing well for the club at the moment.

Winks was linked with a move away from Spurs during the summer transfer window after he struggled for game time for the majority of last season under Jose Mourinho.

The 25-year-old ended up staying put at his boyhood club as he was allegedly keen on fighting for a place in the starting eleven under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, the midfielder has struggled to force himself into the starting eleven so far this season, having made just one Premier League game for the Lilywhites. Most of his minutes so far this campaign have come in the Europe Conference League.

According to reports, Winks has admirers in both Spain and Italy and the midfielder is also thought to be on Newcastle United’s radar following the club’s Saudi-led takeover.

When asked about the speculation regarding his future, the midfielder said (Football London): “Listen, I’m not thinking that far ahead.

“I’ve got a lot of games left to go to try and fight for the club. It’s important we all stay in the same mindset, the same thought process and we see.

“There’s a long way to go, still two months to go and it’s about knuckling down, working as hard as I can and having no regrets.

“It’s got to be the right time for me. The manager has a lot of games to think about. They’re coming thick and fast and I don’t want to stand in the way of preparation, and stand in the way of the other players in the team.

“When the time is right I’ll have a conversation but right now it’s important that the team and manager focussed on the next game and doesn’t get any distractions from me.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I suspect Tottenham might not allow Winks to leave in January (either on loan or permanently) unless they manage to bring in a midfielder. So, in all likelihood, the 25-year-old might have to wait until next summer to get a move.
