Harry Winks sets big target for Tottenham but doesn’t want to get carried away

Tottenham Hotspur made some memories for life last season in the Champions League as they defied all odds to reach the final in Madrid.

Spurs looked down and out in the group stages last year, taking a point from their first three games. However, seven points from their last three, including an away draw at the Nou Camp, saw Tottenham scrape through in second place.

The Lilywhites then proceeded to dominate the then German league leaders, Borussia Dortmund, beating them 4-0 on aggregate.

Spurs then came from behind to beat Man City in the quarter-finals, with Llorente scoring with his hip from a corner to send Pochettino’s men through.

Another come back was on the cards in Amsterdam, as Spurs went 3-0 down on aggregate at half time and 2-0 on the night in the second leg.

Lucas Moura then scored an iconic 45-minute hat-trick to send Spurs through to the final.

Unfortunately, the boys from North London could not defeat Liverpool in Madrid, but they can take inspiration from the Reds as they aim to follow up a runner-up medal with the trophy itself this season.

Harry Winks believes there is no better way to recover than to win the tournament, but he does not want to get carried away.

He said (Express): “We know, getting to the Champions League final, there is going to be high pressure on us getting there again and maybe to go one further and win it.

“We don’t read too much into that, we take it game by game.

“So our first thought is Olympiakos on Wednesday, we have to take that game as it comes and then hopefully we can get a result.

“When you get that close to winning the final, it is upsetting and disappointing.

“There is no better way than trying to go one step further like Liverpool did.

“It is obviously everyone’s dream to get back there but we can’t look too far into the future, it is all about taking it game by game and hopefully we can pick up as many wins as possible.”
