‘Has done so much for the club’ – Pundit lauds Daniel Levy’s decision

Kevin Phillips has praised Daniel Levy for his decision to hire Fabio Paratici as Tottenham’s new Director of Football and insisted that the Italian could take the club to the next level.

Levy’s popularity among Spurs fans had already taken a hit after the club’s initial decision to sign up for the now-disgraced European Super League.

Tottenham’s decision to step back from talks with Antonio Conte has only increased the anger directed at the Spurs chairman.

While Conte’s move seems to have fallen through, reports now indicate that it is only a matter of time before Paratici’s arrival is officially confirmed.

The former Juventus chief football officer is said to have already begun the process of hunting for the club’s next manager and planning for the transfer window.

Phillips believes that the decision to hire Paratici is a sign that Levy recognises the need to step back and insisted that the 48-year-old could help to turn Tottenham into a force again.

The former Sunderland striker told Football Insider: “It represents a big change at Spurs.

“I thought it was going to be a condition of the Antonio Conte appointment but it doesn’t seem that way now.

“Let’s be honest, Daniel Levy has done a fabulous job there and he has done so much for the club but maybe he has got to the point now where he recognises that he needs somebody else in.

“Paratici could be the man to take Spurs to the next level on the field. He can be the middle man between the new manager and Levy.

“We have seen it work to great success at other clubs and perhaps now Levy recognises that this is the best route for Tottenham to take.”
