‘Has everything’ – Ex-Dutch international praises starlet scouted by Spurs

Former Netherlands midfielder Theo Janssen has lavished praise on PSV Eindhoven winger Cody Gakpo, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar.

Gakpo has grown in stature at PSV over the last couple of seasons but the youngster seems to have taken his game to a new level this campaign.

The 22-year-old has already notched up three goals and seven assists in nine Eredivisie matches and a further two goals in three Europa League games so far (Transfermarkt).

The winger’s improved performances have seen him being capped for the Netherlands senior squad on multiple occasions this year.

The Sunday Mirror (14/11, p67) have claimed that Gakpo is now on Tottenham’s radar, with the North London club having sent scouts to watch him in action for PSV against Monaco last month.

Janssen is not in any doubt that Gakpo has the ability to reach the very top, with the 40-year-old insisting that the youngster should be starting every game for the Netherlands at the moment.

The former Twente midfielder told Dutch publication NOS: “That boy (Gakpo) has everything.

“Fine feeling for the ball, a good through ball, dribbles and is strong between the lines.

“I really enjoy him. He is going to be an important player for the Orange squad.

“He is ready to be in the base of the Orange squad. I would definitely draft him. There are other options, but they are not as effective as him.”

One of the reasons that Tottenham have brought in Fabio Paratici is to give the club an edge in identifying and signing the best emerging talent from across the continent.

While it is always a risk bringing in players straight from the Eredivisie (as Spurs themselves have found out with the likes of Vincent Janssen and Heurelho Gomes in the past), Gakpo certainly looks like the real deal.
