‘Has to give more’ – Michael Dawson calls upon Paratici signing to improve his game

Michael Dawson believes that Rodrigo Bentancur has to show more creativity during his midfield displays for Tottenham Hotspur.

Antonio Conte named the Uruguayan international in a central midfield partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg for Spurs’ Premier League clash at Manchester United on Saturday evening.

Bentancur had a slow start to the match at Old Trafford having to mark Paul Pogba, but did manage to settle towards the end of the first half.

Somewhat surprisingly it was Hojbjerg who looked the more creative of the pairing, with the Dane looking to play long, raking balls to the likes of Matt Doherty in attacking areas.

Dawson has called on Bentancur to take more risks with the ball and look to provide a creative outlet for the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in attack.

“Bentancur, there’s got to be more creativity. You’re playing with two holding midfielders, especially if it’s Hojbjerg, they’ve got to create more. Bentancur, he has to give more into the team going forward, he can’t just be so safe,” Dawson told Sky Sports (12/03/22 – 20:05) during his punditry appearance following the final whistle.

Creativity in the Tottenham midfield is a problem, however, typically it has been Bentancur who has looked the most creative out of all central midfielders. Conte decided to bring on Harry Winks for the last few minutes of the match in place of the former Juventus man and offered no impact whatsoever.
