Hasenhuttl sends warning to Spurs ahead of FA Cup showdown

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has fired a warning to Tottenham ahead of the fourth round replay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening by suggesting that his side are just as hungry to book their place in the next round of the FA Cup.

Tottenham have fielded strong line ups in the competition following Jose Mourinho’s arrival, in stark contrast to Mauricio Pochettino who rotated his squad heavily for domestic cup games on occasion.

Mourinho admitted ahead of the replay against the Saints that he views the competition as a great opportunity to land some silverware and is keen on winning it for the second time in his career (Football.London).

With Spurs having a tough upcoming fixture against RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16, there is no doubt that the FA Cup represents the club’s best chance of winning a trophy this season, something Hasenhuttl is perfectly aware of.

He said he expects the home side to field a strong team this evening but assured his opponents that his team were ready for a fight.

Speaking to the Independent, the Saints boss said: “Even if they (Tottenham) rotate they have so much quality in the squad,”

“We’re expecting the best possible team from them.

“Also they are looking to get a trophy this season and it’s probably the best way for Tottenham to get one. They will do everything to get into the next round, but so will we.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This will be an extremely difficult fixture especially after the amount of work the players had to put in on Sunday. Southampton will make us work hard and it will certainly not be easy for us to break them down. An early goal will help immensely and so it is important that we make a fast start and set the tempo early.
